Abstract

1,121,208. Primers. REMINGTON ARMS CO. Inc. 5 Oct., 1966 [30 Nov., 1965], No. 44581/66. Heading F3A. A primer for shotgun cartridges comprises a charged primer cup 42 inserted into the open rearward end of a battery cup 24 to form a primary ignition chamber 43, the battery cup having a tubular portion 26 with an outwardly directed flange 28 and a front end which turns inwardly and then rearwardly to form an anvil portion 30 which includes a forward tubular portion 32 and a conical wall portion 36 converging rearwardly to an anvil impact end 38 in contact with a sensitive priming mixture 40, the conical portion being provided with an internal cover or flap 46 sheared along three sides 48a, 48b, 48c and which, upon ignition of the primer charge, hinges outwardly from the conical wall to form an effective flash hole, whilst still remaining hinged and intact along unsheared portion 48d. The battery cup is made of steel and is received in the rear head end of cartridges. The flap 46 permits the passage of air but prevents the passage of priming mixture or propellant..
