Abstract
Hydrochlorides of esters <FORM:1120453/C2/1> wherein R is a C1- 21 alkyl radical and X is H, a C1- 22 hydrocarbon radical, -CnH2n-NH2, -CnH2n-COOR or -CmH2m-CH(NH2)-COOR, n is 1-10 and m is 1-10 are transesterified by heating in the presence of anhydrous HCl with an alkanol of formula R2-CH2-OH, the number of carbon atoms in the alkanol being greater than that in R and being at least 6, R2 being a C5- 21 alkyl radical. The process may be carried out in two steps, thus in the first step a C1- 4 alkyl ester is transesterified with octyl alcohol and the product, in a second step, is reacted with a C1- 22 alkanol. The products are used as intermediates in the preparation of isocyanates. In examples L-lysine octyl, decyl and stearyl ester dihydrochlorides, L-ornithine octyl ester dihydrochloride, and the dihydrochlorides of di-n-octyl 2,5-diaminoadipate, di-n-hexyl 2,6-diaminopimelate, di-n-hexyl 2,7-diaminosuberate and di-n-hexyl 2,9-diaminosebacate are prepared. The preparation of the dimethyl esters of 2,6-diaminopimelic and 2,9-diaminosebacic acids and the diethyl ester of 2,7-diaminosuberic is also described.
