1,119,985. Display devices. MATSUSHITA ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIAL CO. Ltd., and KOKUSAI DISPLAY KOGYO K.K. 3 Sept., 1965 [4 Sept., 1964; 24 Nov., 1964; 16 June, 1965; 30 June, 1965], No. 37822/65. Heading G5C. A display device in which oscillatory movement is imparted to an article or sign comprises an oscillatory member 1-2 with an arm 9-2 carrying a permanent magnet 10-2 which is momentarily attracted or repelled by momentary current flow through an electromagnet 8-2, return movement being effected by a torsional spring 5-2 supporting and fixed to the member 1-2. Electromagnet 8-2 is energized by return movement of member 1-2 actuating a switch (a) with respectively movable and stationary contacts 26, 25 (Fig. 2), or (b) comprising a transistor (13) which passes current when magnetic flux is detected in the core of magnet 8-2 due to proximity of the magnet 10-2 (Fig. 1, not shown). In modifications (Figs. 10-13, not shown), the support 2-2 for member 1-2 is itself suspended from a fixed member and oscillates oppositely to member 1-2. The member 1-2 and optionally support 2-2 may carry a sign A-2 and/or display articles.
