Abstract

1,119,933. Carrying conductors into casings. SPERRY RAND Ltd. 26 Nov., 1965 [1 Dec., 1964], No. 48717/64. Heading H2E. [Also in Division H1] In a method of passing fine wires through a wall, the wires 17 are placed in notches in the surface of a resilient cylindrical member 23, and are retained in position by a resilient sleeve 24 which is pressed over them. The notches are initially of slightly smaller cross-section than the wires so that the resilient material of the cylindrical member 23 and the sleeve 24 is slightly deformed, thus ensuring a firm anchorage for the wires 17. As shown, four such wires 17 are passed through the end of a brass tube 20 housing a miniature electrical relay having a permanently magnetized rotor 13 mounted on bearings 14 to rotate between the two limbs 12 of an electromagnet 11. When the electromagnet is energized two of the wires 17 are interconnected (Fig. 1, not shown), the particular pair depending upon the direction of rotation which is determined by the polarity of the electrical supply. The surfaces of the limbs 12 are coated with insulating material. The wires 17 may be curved to allow for inaccuracies in the bearing positions, and may also be of different lengths to prevent harmonic vib at ons. Inspection holes 27 are provided to aid the construction of the relay, and these may be later covered up by an outer sleeve of glass fibre.
