Abstract

Metal passes from a runner 16 into a refractory cup-member 14 which together with its top closure plate 15 forms a trap beneath an ingot mould 10 so that the plate 15 forms at least part of the mould bottom, the metal rising into the mould through pipes 17 projecting down into the trap from the plate. A number of moulds are fed from a single vertical trumpet downgate.
