Abstract

The invention comprises triazines of the formula <FORM:1119824/C2/1> wherein X is chlorine or bromine, A is an aromatic ring system, R1 is an alkyl or aryl group, R2 is an aryl group or the group-NR1R2 represents a heterocyclic ring system of aromatic character. The compounds are prepared by heating cyanuric chloride or bromide with a tertiary amine of the formula H-A-NR1R2, preferably at 90-200 DEG C. using 1-2 mols amine per mol cyanuric halide. The aromatic ring system A may be benzene, optionally substituted by alkyl groups or naphthalene or anthracene. Specified aromatic values of R2 or -NR1R2 are phenyl or alkyl phenyl groups or pyrrole, indole or carbazole. Examples relate to the preparation of N-ethyl-N-phenyl- and N,N-diphenyl - 4 - (2,4 - dichloro - 1,3,5 - triazino)-aniline and 1-[(2,4-dichloro-1,3,5-triazino)-phenyl]-pyrrole and indole and 9-[2,4-dichloro-1,3,5-triazino) -phenyl]-carbazole.
