Abstract

Novel compounds of general formula <FORM:1119504/C2/1> wherein m is 0, 1 or 2, R1 is C1- 4 alkyl or benzyl and Z and Z1 are H or halogen are prepared either by reaction of a primary amino acylphenothiazine with an appropriate R1.O.CO-halide or by reaction of a phenothiazine of formula <FORM:1119504/C2/2> with a compound of formula R1.O.CO.NH.CH2.CH2.CO.X where X is halogen optionally followed by oxidation to compounds where m is 1 or 2. Intermediates of formula R1.O.CO.NH.CH2.CH2.CO.X are prepared by action of PCl5 on the corresponding compound where X = OH. Pharmaceutical compositions having anti-inflammatory activity comprise an above novel compound and a pharmaceutical carrier.
