Abstract

1,119,408. Tunnels &c. G.K.N. GRIDWELD ENG. Ltd. 12 Oct., 1966 [12 Oct., 1965], No. 43142/65. Heading E1F. [Also in Division F2] A lagging panel for underground excavations comprises a welded wire mesh encased in impermeable, synthetic resin, e.g. a semirigid polyurethane foam, the mesh including parts for interengaging either with another panel or a support. Panels 10, 11 are joined together side-by-side by helical springs 13 wound on to adjacent wires. At one end of each panel the longitudinal wires protrude and are bent to form hooks 12, and at the other end the mesh protrudes intact. Thus panels are interconnected end-to-end and the hooks may also engage support members. The spaces between the panels are sealed by spraying with a foamed polyurethane.
