An underwater charge suitable for seismographic prospecting, comprises a casing 1 containing a water-destructible explosive charge, having an aperture 6 controlled by a resilient valve member 7, so that, if the charge is lost, hydrostatic pressure opens the valve and allows water to enter the casing and desensitize the contents.
