Abstract

Solid crystalline polymers of ethylene and/or propylene having an inherent viscosity in tetralin at 145 DEG C. of at least 0.1 are made by effecting the polymerization of the monomers in the presence of a solid stereospecific catalyst, and a compound that does not polymerize during the reaction to a solid and is selected from (1) RCH=CHR, (2) R2C=CHR, or (3) R2C=CH2 where R is an alkyl radical. The compound may be separated from the polymer after polymerization. Exemplified compounds are 2-methyl-pentene, and 2-butene. The exemplified catalyst is ethyl aluminium dichloride, TiCl3, and hexamethyl phosphoric triamide. The polymerization conditions are conventional.
