Abstract

111,826. Draper, J. M., and Rhondda Engineering & Mining Co. Oct. 5, 1917. Addition to 1849/15. Upward-current classifiers.-In an upwardcurrent classifier having a balancing liquid column 8 communicating with the classifying vessel 1 as described in the parent Specification, the balancing column is contained in a vertical pipe which extends above the level of the overflow 3 and forms a closed air-cushion. A cock 17 is provided which is opened while the apparatus is being filled. The material is fed from a hopper 2 into a perforated conical chamber 15 provided with an extension 18; the separating water is supplied through a pipe 5, and the products are discharged at the bottom 28 and the overflow 3. A number of such vessels 1 may be connected at the bottom to a common outlet provided with a worm conveyer, the discharge from each vessel into the common outlet being controlled by a slowly rotating partitioned drum. Each vessel 1 may be provided with a glazed inspection opening and with a sliding sampling- valve.
