Abstract

1,118,126. Sewer cleaning machines; springs GENERAL WIRE SPRING CO. 24 March, 1966, No. 13104/66. Headings F2N and F2S. A storage drum 5 containing a coiled sewer auger 9 having a helically wound armour is detachably supported on a rearwardly retractable frame pivotally secured on the two rearwardly positioned legs 4 of a tripod frame supporting a feed mechanism 19 which, together with the drum is rotated by a motor 26 and at a speed different from that of the drum. The feed mechanism includes control means which engages the armour of the snake to feed the snake along the rotary axis of the drum and into a sewer to be cleaned. Mounted on the legs 4 are wheels 8 which are lifted from the ground when the machine is in operation, and the frame 6 carries a handle 18 mounting a wheel 23 which facilitates movement of the machine upon retraction of the frame to remove the drum 5. The feed mechanism includes guides 63 biased outwardly by conical springs 72 and passing in non-rotatable manner through the throat 43 to engage the armour of the snake, the guides being adjustable towards or away from the axis of the mechanism by a follower 55 having an internal conical surface 61 and adjusted axially of the throat by a cam plate 51 rotated by a handle 53.
