Abstract
1,117,931. Transistor sawtooth generators. MARCONI INSTRUMENTS Ltd. 28 Oct., 1965 [19 Jan., 1965], No. 2376/65. Heading H3T. A generator for producing a triangular wave form of adjustable slopes but constant period and amplitude, comprises a condenser having charging and discharging means wherein the discharging current is greater than the charging current; means controlled by the condenser voltage for interrupting the discharging current when the voltage reaches a predetermined lower value and restoring it when the voltage reaches a predetermined upper value; and gang controlled adjustable resistors in the charging and discharging paths so arranged that for all settings of the gang control the period of the wave is constant. Condenser 1 is charged through resistor 3 and transistor 2 until its potential reaches the predetermined upper value, when transistor 10 is switched on, cutting off transistors 11, 12 and 13 and switching on transistor 4. The condenser 1 then discharges through transistor 4 and resistor 56 until the predetermined lower potential is reached, and the states of transistors 4 and 10- 13 are reversed. Resistors 3 and 56 are gangedit is shown in the specification that for any setting of the gang control the period of the triangular wave produced at 7 (i.e. time for condenser to charge through transistor 2 and then discharge through transistor 4) and its amplitude are constant but the two slopes of the wave are varied. Condenser 1 and resistors 14 and 15 may be adjustable to vary the period and amplitude.
