Abstract
The invention comprises polyamides having a major proportion of recurring units of formula <FORM:1117363/C3/1> where x is an integer and y = 0, 1 or 2; x may be 2-5. They may be prepared from the corresponding diamine and dicarboxylic acid or amide-forming derivatives thereof by an interfacial technique. A base, e.g. an alkali or alkaline earth metal oxide, hydroxide or carbonate or a tertiary amine may be present. Minor amounts of other diamines, dicarboxylic acids and tri-functional compounds may also be present. The product may be filtered off, washed and dried and used as a size or antistatic material or made into films, fibres or moulded articles. In examples, pentamethylene diamine and NaOH are dissolved in water and reacted with bis-(p-carboxyphenyl) ether, 1,2- bis - (p - carboxyphenoxy) ethane or 1,4- bis - (p - carboxyphenoxy) butane in CH2Cl2.
