Abstract

1,116,877. Fire alarms. GRAVINER (COLNBROOK) Ltd. 14 Oct., 1966 [30 July, 1965], No. 32590/65. Heading G4N. [Also in Divisions G1 and H3] A flame, fire or explosion detector comprises a plurality of radiation sensitive detectors, which may be ultra-violet sensitive gas-discharge photo-cells, directed at an area and having their active surfaces screened one from another, their outputs being applied to gating means whereby an alarm or control is effected only if all detectors produce electrical signals within the same predetermined time interval which is a fraction of a second. Separate screened passages to the detectors are aimed at making the system unresponsive to cosmic radiation. Two detectors shown are energized from a common supply and are connected through respective capacitors to respective monostable transistor circuits which have their outputs applied to a transistor coincidence gate over Zener diodes. Coincidence signals trigger a silicon-controlled rectifier through inverter and buffer stages and may step a counter. The system may comprise more than two photocells.
