Abstract

The invention comprises the X-form of metal-free phthalocyanine having an X-ray diffraction pattern exhibiting strong lines at Bragg angles of 7.5, 9.1, 16.7, 17.3 and 22.3 and an infra-red spectrum having a strong band at 746 cm.-1, three peaks between 700 and 750 cm.-1 and bands of about equal intensity at 1318 and 1330 cm.-1 The X-form is prepared by removing impurities from a , b or g metal-free phthalocyanine and milling until the required form is obtained.
