Abstract
1,116,135. Knitting-machines: takeup mechanisms. TEXTILE MACHINE WORKS. 28 June, 1966 [6 July, 1965], No. 29007/66. Heading D1C. A straight bar knitting machine with fixed spring bead needles 17 comprises a takeup mechanism having welt hooks, fabric take up hooks 45, a second set of fabric take up hooks 171 which disengage the fabric take up hooks 45, and a fourth form of take up mechanism comprising reels with hooks. The machine produces a turned welt and the welt hooks take up the welt then return it to the needles. At this point a bar with fabric take up hooks 45 engages the fabric and is pulled back by a wire 70 and weight. A deflector bar 105 pushes the fabric down as the hooks 45 come up to engage the fabric, thus assisting this engagement. A third fabric take up means comprising hooks 171 engages the fabric at the same time as the other hooks 45 these are moved by straps tensioned by weights, the return movement being made by a pawl and ratchet controlled by a cam on the machine. A cam (281) controlled lever 271 raises the hooks 172 in their forward position and then lowers them to engage the fabric. Both sets of hooks pull the fabric off until the bar (42) with hooks 45 is stopped by a fixed part of the machine and then only the hooks 171 are operative. The levers 271 are disengaged as the hooks 171 move back by abutment against the front bed 16 of the machine. A fourth take up means comprises reels (317) with hooks (318) which rotate in the take up direction. As hook members 171 reach the back position they rise slightly and a strip of felt disengages the fabric therefrom with the aid of the reels (317) which continue the take up process.
