Abstract

111,607. Chisholm, D. W. March 9, 1917. Pipes and tubes.-One or more streams of oxygen are directed on to the edges of a hot strip to maintain it at the requisite welding temperature by a double-mouthed nozzle q, Fig. 6, mounted between two pairs of rolls and provided with means for adjustment in depth and transversely. A strip is passed between the rolls 1, 2, Figs. 1 and 4, which bend it to a U-form, and then under the nozzle q and through an adjustable guide to the rolls 3, 4, Figs. 1 and 5, which bend it to a circular section and weld the butt or lapped edges to form a tube. The tube passes on through guides to pairs of sizing and finishing rolls 5, 6 and 7, 8. All the rolls are chain-driven in the manner shown.
