Abstract

1,115,082. Printing apparatus. UNILEVER Ltd. 17 May, 1966 [17 May, 1965], No. 20695/65. Heading B6C. A method of copying in which a thin film of a transfer medium is applied to the image face of an original document to be copied and the original document is subjected to irradiation to cause transfer of said medium to an adjacent sheet in a pattern determined by the original image, is characterized in that, prior to the irradiation step, heat is applied'to the original document so as to reduce the viscosity of the medium and time is allowed for the medium to flow and thereby improve its effective distribution over the original document. In the apparatus shown, an original is treated at station 4 with a suitable oil transfer medium e.g. triacetin, is heated for two seconds to a 'temperature of 100‹ C. at station 5 and is passed through an irradiation step at station 6 together with a superimposed copy sheet 16. Modified apparatus is described in which the heating step is carried out on the original prior to, or during, the oil treatment.
