Abstract
1,114,819. Waggons for transporting vehicles. HIGHWAY TRAILER INDUSTRIES Inc. 17 Jan., 1967, No. 2454/67. Heading B7L. [Also in Division B8] The container body 43 of a semi-trailer is transferred from a bogie 46 to rest on bolsters 2-4 of a rail vehicle 1. The vehicle 1 capable of supporting two containers end-to-end has its bolsters 4 movable longitudinally on guide rails and each comprising ramps 11, Fig. 7, spaced to form a guide track 12 and provided with a support surface 15. In use, a king-pin at the rear of the container is backed into a track 12 and rollers on the container run up the ramps 11 thus raising it from the bogie 46. The king-pin is guided to the central point of the track 12 where it is held by a lock mechanism 22 at which point the container rollers drop into recesses 40 so that the container is supported and held on the surface 15. The other end of the container is then moved by the tractor 51 to the position of Fig. 5 from which it is pulled by a winch and cable 55, 56 on to a bolster 3 on which the king-pin 49 is held in a central position by a further locking mechanism.
