Wrap-around carton blanks, Fig. 3 (not shown), of the interlocking tab type are fed from a magazine 100<SP>1</SP> by means 102 to a conveyer 101 having abutments 103 which drive the blanks through setting-up devices, a group of articles, e.g. bottles, being fed on to a base panel (20) of each carton blank by turn tables 106 through guides 107. A top panel (23) of the carton is initially carried on a conveyer 104. Carton blanks.-Each blank comprises two side panels (21), (22) on each side of the panel (20), the top panel (23) being connected to panel (21), and two interlocking panels (24), (25), formed on panels (23), (22), respectively. The panel (25) includes a support tab (26) and a locking tab (27), and panel (24) includes a support aperture (28) and a locking aperture (29). Setting - up mechanism.-The panel (24) is folded up by ploughs 40, 41, before the bottles are fed on to the base panel (20). Side panel (21) is then folded up against the bottles by a plough 42 and the top panel (23) folded inwardly by a guide 43, while a plough folds the panel (25) down, breaking the support tab (26) from the surrounding blank, and guides 47, 49 fold up side panel (22). A folding device (50), Fig. 9 (not shown), adapted to move in a circular path over the carton then contacts the top panel (23) with its curved arm (55) to fold the panel further inwardly, an arm (56) and roller (57), carried by arm (55), then folding the panel (23) down over the bottle necks. An overhead guide 60 retains the panel folded down. The support tab (26) and aperture (28) are then aligned by means (70), Fig. 12 (not shown), which comprises a vertical rotatable wheel (71) having axially extending peripheral members (72). Each member (72) comprises: a portion (74) which contacts the flap (25) to hold it at right angles to the side panel (22) and to move it through the means (70); and a portion (75), shaped to protrude through the locking aperture (29) to align the support aperture (28) with the tab (26). The carton is then fed past a guide which rotates panel (25) upwardly and inwardly, causing tab (26) to be inserted in aperture (28), before being fed to locking means (80), Figs. 16, 18 (not shown). The locking means comprises a rotatable wheel (81) carrying at its periphery spring-loaded members (82) activated by a fixed cam (83). Each member (82) includes a slide (85) which, on rotating wheel (81), is forced down, and by means of pivots (90), (91), twists a member (94) down on to the prepositioned tab (27) forcing it through the aperture (29). All moving members of the machine are driven by a motor 108.
