Abstract
A polymerization catalyst for alpha-olefines is formed from 91) at elast one organoaluminium halide of the formula RmAIXn or R2 Al2X3 where R represents an alkyl, cycloakyl, phenyl, or tolyl group, X represents Cl or Br and M + n equals 3, (2 a halide, alkoxy halide or alkoxide of a transition metal from Group IVB, VB, or VIB of the Periodic Table, and (3) a monocyclic aliphatic hydrocarbon containing from 7 to 16 carbon atoms and having at least three ethylenic bonds in the ring or a phenyl substituted acyclic straight chain hydrocarbon containing at least three ethylenic bonds, or a polybutadiene having a molecular weight of from 500 to 5,000, e.g. 1,5-9-cycloheptatriene, benzene soluble 1,2- and 1,4-polybutadienes, tetraphenyl-1,2,3-butatriene tetraphenyl-1,2,3,4,5-hexapentaene, 1,6 - diphenyl -1,3,5 - hexatriene, 1,8-diphenyl octatetraene, and 1,16-diphenyl hexadecaoctaene. Exemplified olefines are propylene, 4-methyl-1-pentene, butene-1, vinylcyclohexane and styrene.
