Abstract
1,114,177. Planting machines. BRITISH SOCIETY FOR RESEARCH IN AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERING. 20 July, 1966 [22 July, 1965], No. 31268/65. Heading A1D. A device for transplanting seedlings comprises laterally spaced grippers 32 mounted on a carrier 22 slidable in slots 20 in end members 14 mounted on skids, the carrier being raised by means of handle 30 so that pins 25 on the ends of the carrier enter slots 21 whereby the carrier can be pivoted so that the grippers 32 enter and remove seedlings from box 18, the carrier then being lowered to the position shown to effect planting of the seedlings. Each gripper 32 comprises a pair of jaws, one jaw being rigidly secured to a transverse bar 26 of the carrier and the other being pivoted thereto and moved by means of slide 37 and linkage 40-43. Means may be provided for moving the box 18 laterally after each planting operation so that the seedlings are removed progressively from the box. Means for cleaning the grippers may also be provided.
