[Also in Division C2] Pharmaceutical and veterinary preparations having action upon the central nervous system comprise diphenyl - aminopropanols of the formula and acid addition salts thereof, wherein R is hydrogen or C 1-6 alkyl and X, X<SP>1</SP>, X<SP>11</SP>, Y, Y<SP>1</SP> and Y<SP>11</SP> are each hydrogen, C 1-4 alkyl, C 1-4 alkoxy or halogen, in forms adapted to oral, parenteral or rectal administration, which may contain conventional diluents and excipients and/or further active ingredients, for example, anti-convulsants such as phenobarbital. mephobarbital diphenylhydantoin and trimethadione, anti-depressants such as imipramine, amitryptyline etryptamine and tranylcypromine and anorexigenic agents such as d-amphetamine and benzphetamine.
