Abstract
1,113,730. Grinding; trueing grinding wheels; lathes; bar feeds. MSO MASCHINEN-UND SCHLEIFMITTELWERKE A.G. 1 March, 1966 [2 March, 1965], No. 8807/66. Headings B3B, B3D and B3T. A grinding machine for cylindrical, infeed and plunge grinding, comprises a turret head 24 movable on a slide 2 under hydraulic control, and an automatically-operable material feed device 6. The slide 2 is reciprocable by an hydraulic drive on slideways on the machine bed 1 and supports a workhead 3 having a chuck 4 or centre 5 for the workpiece, and an intermediate slide 8 rigidly connected to slide 2 carries a ram 9 which is reciprocatable by an hydraulic cylinder 10 and carries the turret head 24. The head co-operates with a rotatable drum 22 having six adjustable stops during its reciprocation to present a series of tools, such as turning, drilling, reaming and thread-cutting tools, to the workpiece. The material feed device 6 is mounted adjacent the workhead 3 and is operated electro-hydraulically. The grinding wheel is mounted on a head 34, Fig. 2, which is movable to effect an infeed by a spindle 32 and nut 33 and can be effected hydraulically in co-operation with the indexing of the turret. A crush dressing device, 35, Fig. 2, is mounted on the wheel head 34 and comprises a lever 40 which is rockable about a pivot 39 and carries a crushing roller 37 mounted for rotation on a pin 41 and a master crushing roller 43 mounted on a pin 42 and rotated by an electric motor 44 also mounted on the lever 40. The lever can be rocked about the pivot 39 by an hydraulic device 46, 47 to present one or other of the crusher rollers and the grinding wheel and is mounted on a slide 45 movable towards or away from the grinding wheel by rotation of a nut 49 which engages a spindle 50 and is rotated by gearing 51 driven from a rack 52 movable by hydraulic pressure. Alternatively, the spindle 50 can be moved by a hand wheel 53 connected through gearing 55, 56, 57 to a spindle 58 engaging a nut 60 on the spindle 50. In a dressing operation, the crushing roller 37 is pressed against the grinding wheel which is rotated at slow speed to give a peripheral speed of 0À5 to 1À5 metres per second and a pressure of 20 to 100 kg./cm<SP>2</SP>. If, after repeated dressing operations, the profile produced on the grinding wheel is not correct, the device 46, 47 is operated to pivot the lever 40 and present the master crushing roller 43 to the grinding wheel and the motor 44 is operated to rotate the roller. Simultaneously, rack 52 is moved to effect an infeed of the slide 45 carrying the dressing device so as to produce the correct profile on the grinding wheel. Thereafter, the device 46, 47 is operated to bring the roller 32 into engagement with the grinding wheel which is then rotated at grinding speed while the slide 45 is advanced to correct the profile of the crushing roller 37. In a machining operation, after the grinding of a workpiece, the grinding wheel is retracted and the material feed device 6 is operated to engage the ground workpiece with a stop 60, Fig. 3a, which supports the workpiece while the turret head is operated to centre, drill and cut a thread on the workpiece. Meanwhile, the grinding wheel grinds a second workpiece and cuts-off the first. When the grinding wheel is retracted, the first workpieoe is removed from the stop 60 by an ejector.
