<FORM:1113362/C4-C5/1> L.N.G. having been in part vaporized in a heat exchanger 4 to provide cold for an ethylene plant 24 is separated in columns 12, 18 into gaseous ethane which is fed through a line 22 to the ethylene plant 24 and into liquid propane which is fed through a line 20 and added to a by-product mixture of gaseous hydrogen, methane and carbon monoxide leaving the plant 24 and in such proportions as to provide a gas mixture of about the same calorific value as methane. The latter mixture is then added to effluent methane from column 14 after its cold content is recovered in a heat exchanger 4 which together with exchanger 4 is traversed either by the ethylene plant process stream or by a separate fluid which transfers cold to said plant 24. Excess liquid propane is bled off through a line 381 and C4 hydrocarbons may be recovered in a separator 36 and fed through a line 40 to a naphtha line 30.
