Systems for continuous - c u r r e n t motors only. - In a telegraphic receiving system, the motor A is maintained at a speed determined by a vibrating-reed relay PR by means of a commutator C, driven by the motor, and correcting relays CR', CR<2>, which control resistances in the field and armature circuits respectively. If the motor is running at the proper speed and phase, the brush B<1> engages the earthed segment c when the controlling impulse is received, but if the motor lags or leads the brush B' will engage the segment c<1> or c<2> at this moment, thereby energizing the relay CR<1> or CR<2>, whereby a resistance r<2> or r<3> is thrown into the field or armature circuit so as to increase or decrease the speed. A differential galvanometer G indicates whether the tendency of the motor is to run fast or slow.
