Novel compounds of formula wherein A is an adamantyl or homoadamantyl radical which is linked to the adjacent carbonyl function at a bridgehead position, X is an oxygen or sulphur atom or the group -NH-, Alk is an alkylene radical containing 2 to 8 carbon atoms, and -NRR<SP>1</SP> is a dialkylamino radical wherein the alkyl groups each contain 1 to 6 carbon atoms, or a 1-pyrrolidinyl, piperidino, morpholino or 4-methyl-1-piperazinyl radical, and the acid addition and quaternary ammonium salts thereof, are prepared by reacting an adamantane- or homoadamantane-carboxylic acid halide with a compound of formula HX-Alk-NRR<SP>1</SP>, or, when X is an oxygen atom, by reacting an adamantane- or homoadamantane-carboxylic acid with a halide of formula Halogen-Alk- NRR<SP>1</SP> in an alkanol solvent. Adamantane- or homoadamantane-carboxylic acid chloride is obtained by treating the corresponding acid with thionyl chloride.
