Abstract
A heat activatable polyamine powder, obtained by reacting in substantially equimolar ratio a monoaldehyde and a cycloaliphatic diamine, having amino groups of different reactivity, heating the initial reaction product, cooling the mixture, and pulverizing the crystalline solid so formed, is used as a curing agent for solid and liquid epoxy resins.ALSO:A polyamine powder is prepared by reacting in substantially equimolar ratio a monoaldehyde and a cycloaliphatic diamine having amino groups of different reactivity, heating the initial reaction product, cooling the liquid produced to form a crystalline solid and pulverizing this solid. Suitable aldehydes are, for example, formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, furfural and benzaldehyde. Suitable cycloaliphatic diamines are those having two amino groups attached to a cycloaliphatic ring, one of the amino groups being less reactive than the other, e.g. menthane diamine and isophorone diamine. The heating is generally carried out at 100-120 DEG C. for 20-24 hours. In an example isophorone diamine is reacted with paraformaldehyde.
