Abstract
1,112,129. Securing coils for dynamo-electric machines. C. A. PARSONS & CO. Ltd. 6 Jan., 1967 [24 Dec., 1965], No. 54863/65. Heading H2A. The rotor end windings 3 of a dynamoelectric machine are retained against centrifugal forces by clamping members, such as bolts 8, extending radially from at least one sleeve 6 located within the windings. In an A.C. turbo-generator, high tensile steel bolts 8 with insulating sleeves 10 and load-spreading and insulating washers 11, 12 pass through the copper or aluminium conductors and are screwed into a sleeve 6 spaced from the rotor shaft 2b at its outer end 7 to permit deflection of the shaft and secured thereto by sliding it on to the shaft then rotating it so that projections 6a, 2b<SP>1</SP> engage. The bolts are preferably staggered (Fig. 2, not shown), and support coil interconnections 19. Balance weights may be attached to the sleeve 6 at 13. Axial movement of slot wedges is prevented by a ring 14 which may act with the wedges to provide a squirrel-cage damping winding. The winding leads 17 are retained in slots in the shaft 2b by wedges 18. It is stated that because end bells are absent, cooling is more effective and consequently the end winding conductors may be of smaller cross-section than the slot conductors, but may be larger to compensate for the passage of the bolts.
