Abstract

1,111,707. Treating polyester films; laminates. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. 28 July, 1966 [29 July, 1965], No. 34052/66. Headings B5B and B5N. A film of a linear polyester is treated with a liquid comprising nitric and/or sulphuric acid, the concentration of each acid being 50-100%, and said liquid containing no chromic acid yielding compound. The acids may be in solution in an inert diluent; e.g. methylene chloride or chloroform for nitric acid, or tetrahydrofuran or dioxan for sulphuric acid. Treatment may be effected by passage through an acid bath, remaining acid being neutralized, e.g. with sodium bicarbonate. The adhesive capacity of the film is thereby increased facilitating production of laminates, e.g. with films of nitro- or ethylcellulose or ethylene/vinylacetate copolymer using a glycol ether as adhesive, or with another similar treated polyester film using an ethylene/vinylacetate copolymer as the bonding intermediate layer.
