Abstract

An emulsion comprising a small quantity of one phase dispersed in another is separated by adding a further quantity of the dispersed phase and filtering through ferric hydroxide. The emulsion may be oil containation in water, or water in oil or non-aqueous. Ferric hydroxide, aluminium hydroxide, iron filings, granular or activated carbon may be added with the further dispersed phase to act as an agglomerating agent. The emulsion and additives are then mixed by ultrasonics, stirring, ejection through nozzles by pumps or forcing through a bed of steel filings, and may be allowed to stand before filtering.ALSO:An emulsion comprising a small quantity of one phase dispersed in another is separated by adding a further quantity of the dispersed phase and filtering through ferric hydroxide. The emulsion may be oil contamination in water, or water in oil or non-aqueous. Ferric hydroxide, aluminium, hydroxide, iron filings, granular or activated carbon may be added with the further dispersed phase to act as an agglomerating agent. The emulsion and additive are then mixed by ultrasonics, stirring, ejection through nozzles or pumps forcing through a bed of steel filings, and may be allowed to stand before filtering.
