Abstract
1,111,532. Aerials. CSF-COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL. 4 Oct., 1966 [8 Oct., 1965], No. 44370/66. Heading H4A. An end-fire aerial comprises a helical radiating element 1, supported on insulators 5, in conjunction with a coaxially arranged resonant section of bifilar transmission line 2, 2 with short-circuited ends 3, 3. Power is coupled to the line at points A, B from a feeder 4. A plane reflector (6), Fig. 3 (not shown) may be substituted for one of the short-circuiting links and the other may be made slidable for adjusting the line to resonance. The feeder may be a coaxial cable which may be coupled to the line by a loop (8) or be directly connected at points (A), (B), Fig. 4 (not shown). It is stated that in an aerial of this kind a helical element 1 may have a transverse dimension less than #/12 (# = free space wavelength at mean operating frequency). An array may comprise a number of such aerials arranged in parallel on a common reflector, or they may be aligned on a common longitudinal axis.
