Heading B8E. [Also in Division B7] The hold 1 of a ship is filled with sand from a sucked-up mixture of sand and water via a tube 7 the mouth of which is placed at a great depth in the hold. The tube may widen downwards as shown at 8 in Fig. 1 and be provided with openings in the form of slots 9, or may terminate in an expansion chamber (Fig. 2, not shown), comprising a rectangular box having a large number of slots therein.
