Abstract

1,111,518. Hydraulic apparatus. OLEOMAT. Dec.1, 1966 [Dec.2, 1965], No.53742/66. Heading F1P. Hydraulic apparatus includes three rams V1, V2, V3 that are controlled by valves D1, D2, D3 such that the rams V2, V3 can be connected in either series or parallel with each other so as to regulate the speed and thrust developed by these rams. The said valves are of conventional kind and include members that can be set in any of three positions a, b, c. As shown in Fig.3, when any of said members is in the position b the associated ram is disconnected from a pump P and a reservoir R for hydraulic fluid without effecting discontinuity of the hydraulic circuit; and when any of said members is in either of the other two positions, the associated ram is connected so that it operates in one direction or the other, the fluid expelled by the rams V1, V2 being directed into the next ram in the circuit. To obtain parallel connection of the valves V2, V3, the movable member in the valve D2 can occupy a fourth position d wherein the uppermost end of the associated ram V2 is connected to the output side of the valve D1, the opposite end of said ram being connected directly to the reservoir R through a valve U comprising a movable member that can occupy either an "open" position # or a "closed" position # and is coupled to the said member in the valve D2 by lost-motion linkage x, which is such that the valve U is closed except when the latter said member occupies the position d. Additionally, when the position a is assumed, the output side of the valve D2 is connected to the input side of the valve D3, as shown in Fig. 4. The apparatus may be incorporated in a mechanical shovel and may also include a rotary M and a pair of additional rams Z, which motor and rams are controlled by valves D4, D5, respectively, these valves being similar to those controlling the rams V1, V2, V3. The valve D2 may include a member that can occupy yet another position wherein it effects connections similar to those effected in the position d save that the lowermost end of the ram V2 is connected to the valve D1 while the uppermost end is connected to the reservoir R through the valve U.
