Abstract

In a one-shot process for making polyurethane foams a hydroxyl group-containing polyether with a molecular weight of 300 to 10,000, and containing both oxyethylene and other oxyalkylene units, the oxyethylene units constituting from 1-25% on a molar basis and which is the reaction product of a mixture of ethylene oxide and one or more of 1,2-propylene, 1-2-butylene and 2-3-butylene oxide with a compound containing at least three active hydrogen atoms, is reacted in presence of a gas generating agent, with an organic polyisocyanate. The compound with at least three active H atoms may be monomeric or the reaction product of one or both of ethylene and 1,2-propylene oxide with the monomeric compound. Conventional tertiary amine and organometallic catalysts may be included in the reaction mixture.
