Abstract

Water-soluble salts of partial or complete sulphuric acid esters of disaccharides or hexitols are obtained by sulphating disaccharides or hexitols in a basic organic solvent such as formamide, or pyridine, with sulphating agents such as sulphur trioxide, fuming sulphuric acid or chlorosulphonic acid, and treating the resultant sulphate-esters with an inorganic base such as sodium, potassium, or ammonium hydroxide. Therapeutic compositions useful as antipeptic ulcer agents and which may be administered orally in the form of tablets, powders, capsules, granules, or solutions, contain as the active ingredient the above water-soluble salts. The compositions may also contain one or more compatible drugs.
