Abstract

The invention comprises 2-[4-(2-carboxybenzoylamino)benzene - sulphonamido - 5-methoxy-pyrimidine and its salts with non-toxic bases; and the preparation of this compound by reacting a reactive derivative of o-phthalic acid, e.g. phthalic anhydride, with 2-sulphanilamido -5-methoxy-pyrimidine or an alkali metal salt thereof in a solvent, such as an organic solvent or aqueous solution; or the preparation by condensing 2-amino-5-methoxy-pyrimidine in the presence of a base with N-(p-chlorosulphonyl) - phenyl - phthalimide and subjecting the phthalimide thus obtained to mild alkaline hydrolysis.
