Abstract
1,109,719. Coating-apparatus; spray-producers. SPRAYFOIL INDUSTRIAL CORPORATION. 24 Aug., 1966, No. 38047/66.Headings B2F and B2L. Apparatus for uniformly coating workpieces moved through an enclosure 50 past sprayheads 11 by a work holder 30 includes a mechanism 40 for reciprocating the spray heads in a direction at right angles to the direction of movement of the workpieces, means 20 for supplying a propellant medium, and a collector 60 for disposing of excess liquid and propellant medium. The pressure and flow of the propellant medium and the 'spray liquid is kept constant. The enclosure may be divided into two or more spray compartments (Fig. 3, not shown) for the spraying of different liquids. The propellant medium; e.g. air, collected from collector 60 may be recycled after filtering to remove any liquid (Fig. 8, not shown). The air may be heated before supply to the spray heads, this heating being the sole means used to control the effective temperature of the liquid being sprayed. The installation shown in Fig. 4 is a chemical etching machine with a box cabinet 70 enclosing controls while a spray chamber 50 is mounted at one end of a work surface 71. The chamber 50 includes a plenum chamber supplied with air through duct 27. The reciprocating motion of the spray heads is obtained by movement of a piston in a cylinder 43, a limit switch 45 controlling the periodicity and extent of movement. The work holder is a carriage 34 carried on warps in the bottom of the chamber 50 beneath surface 71. Motion of the carriage through the spraying area is controlled by an air cylinder, and the work is inserted onto and removed from the carriage through openings in surface 71. If the workpiece is massive the sprayhead alone may be moved in both the direction of reciprocation and in a direction at right angles thereto.
