Abstract

1,109,501. Casting concrete blocks. K. T. NAYAGAM. 5 Oct., 1964 [7 Oct., 1963], No. 39462/63. Heading B5A. [Also in Division E1] Building blocks are cast on a floor 53 in a mould including side walls 51, 52 which support collapsible formers 56 for making cavities in the block. One end of the formers passes through suitably shaped holes 54 in wall 51 and the other ends are supported by rods 57 bolted to wall 52, the formers, if required, passing through shuttering 59 which is used to form apertures through the moulded block. Core members, e.g. 58, may be attached to the formers in order to form passages opening into the cavities formed by the formers or, as in the Figure, to define the edges of the mould thus, if necessary, separating a plurality of blocks cast on one operation upon floor 53. The formers (see Figs. 6-9, only Fig. 6 of which is shown) comprise two co-operating channel-shaped members 71, 72 separated by wedge-shaped members 78 operated by a parallel link mechanism 76. Wire reinforcement may be used to strengthen the block in strategic areas, e.g. around the cavities formed therein.
