Abstract

1,109,363. Mounting resistance heating elements in towel rails. OSBORN MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. 20 April, 1965 [18 April, 1964], No. 16192/64. Heading H5H. [Also in Division A4] A drying and airing rail comprises an approximately rectangular frame formed from a single length of tube and provided on one of its sides 3 with means 21, 22, 23 whereby the rail is adapted to be mounted upon a vertical support 25 with the said side parallel to the support, and an insulated electric heating element 8 which extends through the tube along each of the frame sides in succession. One end of the tube is bent to extend between and parallel to the longer sides 1 and 2 and is provided with a plug 7 which is removed when inserting the element 8. A supporting tube 21 welded to a shorter side 3 is engaged by brackets 22 and 23 screwed to a wall 25. The heating element comprises an insulated wire 9 embedded in and along an asbestos or fibre glass tape 9 and connected to terminals 13 and 14 of an electric coupling 10 having an earth terminal 12. In an alternative form, Figs. 2 to 4 (not shown), the tube 21 is replaced by U-shaped mounting plates (21a and 21b), and the brackets 22 and 23 are secured to the cover (27) of a housing (28) attached to the wall 25 and containing a pullcord operated switch (31).
