Abstract

1,108,562. Fluid control of brakes; valves. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. 28 Oct., 1964 [29 Oct., 1963], No. 42702/63. Headings F2F and F2V. An hydraulically-operated valve for connection in a vehicle brake system between the outets of a pedal-operated master cylinder and the servo-motorsof a pair of power-operated slave cylinders which are connected to front and rear wheel brakes, comprises a pair of pistons 7 and 8 slidably arranged end to end in abutting relationship in a blind bore 2 of a valve body 1, inlet parts 10 and 11 in said body connectable to the respective master cylinder outlets and respectively feeding fluid to one end of the piston 7 and to the annular space 9 defined by the abutting piston ends, a valve housing 4 having two outlet ports 29, 30 each connectable to a separate servomotor, and valve closure members 22 and 24 operatively connected to piston 8 so that the supply of fluid to either one or both inlet ports effects operation of the valve closure members and actuation of the servomotors. Piston 8 is connected by a rod 18 to a tubular bush 17, which is adapted to be normally closed by closure member 22 and supported by a diaphragm 12. The diaphragm forms two chambers 13 and 14 which are normally interconnected through the unseated valve 22 to allow both chambers and hence the servomotors to be connected to atmosphere through a port 15. On supply of fluid to either one or both inlets 10 and 11, bush 17 is seated against closure member 22 to close off chamber 14 from atmosphere and simultaneously valve closure member 24 is unseated to allow compressed air supplied to port 28 to pass to the servomotors through outlets 29 and 30. In another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the valve is incorporated in a boss of a servomotor. In a further embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown) the valve is adapted for actuation of vacuum-suspended servomotors, a dual line braking system incorporating such a valve being described and illustrated, Fig. 5 (not shown).
