Abstract
1,108,153. Electronic counters. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 29 June, 1965 [1 May, 1964], No. 18197/64. Heading G4A. A reversible binary counter operates to a 1125 weighted code. For addition the add line is marked negative and the subtraction line is earthed, so holding inoperative all the gates in the lower part of the Figure. Input pulses are applied to the strapped X and Y terminals. Initially each pulse opens AND gate G1 to reverse stage B1, the second pulse restoring B1 and resulting in a pulse from Q1 through G4 to set stage B3. The third pulse sets B1 again and opens AND gate G3 which, through N, closes G1. The fourth pulse, therefore, does not affect B1 but sets B2. G3, N and G1 then restore so that the fifth pulse restores B1, whereupon G4 restores B2 and B3 and sets B4. Pulses 6-9 operate in the same manner as pulses 1-4. The tenth pulse restores all stages and supplies a carry pulse from Q4. Subtraction takes place in the reverse order.
