Abstract
Synthetic or natural fibres of e.g. asbestos or glass are coated with oxides of Cr, Ni, Cu, V, Ti or Zr, and alloys thereof by vapour deposition, sputtering or chemical deposition. Alternatively the fibres may be impregnated with Cu, Ag or Au, by thermal diffusion.
