Abstract

1,107,526. Testing rectifiers. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. June 14, 1966 [June 15, 1965], No.26573/66. Heading G1U. Rectifiers 1, 2, 3, e.g. semi-conductor power diodes or mercury arc rectifiers to be tested in respect of forward and reverse operation, are connected between respective phases I, II, III of a polyphase supply in series with an inductor L1 and controlled rectifiers 1', 2', 3' which are switched in synchronism with the polyphase supply by a signal generator 13. Assuming that I is the most positive phase and that rectifier 2' is triggered on, then current will flow through forward biased diode 1 from P to Q, reverse biasing rectifier 2 and storing energy in L1. When I falls below II diode 1 is cut off and the energy from L1 dissipates itself through diode 2. This sequenee repeats for each pair of diodes sequentially testing their forward and reverse operation. A similar circuit for testing further diodes 4, 5, 6 may also be connected across the supply.
