Abstract

1,107,291. Mineral-mining cutter drums. JOY MANUFACTURING CO. 13 Jan., 1966 [1 Feb., 1965], No. 1613/66. Heading E1F. A peripherally pick-armed cutter drum is at its ends rotatably supported by and fluidly sealed against support means and is rotated relative to the support means by drive means disposed within the drum and cooled by a cooling medium circulated through and retained within the drum. Preferably each end of the drum is rotatably supported on the inturned end of a vertically swingable arm and the body of an electric motor is secured to the arm whilst the drive shaft of the motor is connected to the drum by sun and planet gearing. An impeller on the shaft provides the means for circulating cooling oil within the drum.
