Abstract

Perfluoroacrylic ester resin compositions for application to fabrics are produced by compounds of formula CH2:CHCO2CH2CnF2n+1, where n is 3 to 9. These compounds may have a number of perfluoroalkyl groups, each group having at least four carbon atoms and may be applied as a liquid also containing a compound containing an amido group having at least two urea groups joined by a C2- 4 alkylene group, a number of methyl groups and at least one alkyl group attached to a nitrogen atom of a urea group, the alkyl group having at least ten carbon atoms and an acid catalyst.ALSO:An iron-on fabric is prepared by treating a woven or non-woven material with a solution or dispersion of a perfluoroacrylic ester resin so that the material picks up from 0.25% to 5% by weight of its dry weight of the resin, drying the treated material, applying to the treated material a solution of a heat sensitive adhesive and again drying to expel the solvent. Suitable adhesives are polyethylenes, polyamides and polyvinyl chlorides.
