Abstract

A sliding electrical contact is formed from any one of, or combination of, the powdered sulphides or selenides of tungsten, rhenium or titanium or molybdenum selenide, which is, or are, press-moulded in proportion up to 50% by weight with a metal to form the contact at a temperature below the decomposition temperature of the sulphides or selenides. Powdered silver is preferably used or a mixture of silver with up to 20% of gold, cadmium, copper, indium and/or gallium powder or a mixture thereof. The powdered material may be mixed with a powdered plastics material such as P.T.F.E. and then press-moulded at a temperature not exceeding 250 DEG C.
