Abstract

1,106,343. Polymers of perfluoroinated divinyl ethers. E. I. DU FONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 24 March, 1965, No. 12440/65. Heading C3P. A polymer of bis(perfluorovinyl) ether of formula where n is 2-24, is claimed which may be a homopolymer or a copolymer with another ether of above formula, a perfluoroalkyl perfluorovinyl ether, a perfluorovinyl perfluoroalkoxy polyether or a perfluoroolefine and contains the repeating unit where n is as before. The ether may be perfluoro - (di -, tri - or penta -) methylene - bis(perfluorovinyl ether). The comonomer may be perfluoro (methyl or propyl) perfluorovinyl ether, perfluoro-2-propoxypropyl perfluorovinyl ether, tetrafluoroethylene or hexafluoropropylene. The polymer may be cross-linked by polymerizing the pendant perfluorovinyl. groups. The polymer may be prepared by polymerizing the monomer(s) in bulk or perfluorodimethylcyclobutane using irradiation with U.V. N 2 F 2 , or trifluoromethyl peroxide as catalyst and may then be cross-linked by heating. The polymerization may be carried out in the presence of glass fibres, aluminium or copper powder or wire, or one of the above copolymers.
