Abstract
<PICT:1106075/C6-C7/1> A method for protecting against corrosion the internal surfaces of a pressure vessel having an end-closure lid 2, e.g. a vessel for a urea synthesis process, comprises forming in the wall 1 of the vessel near its closure joint an annular step 6a, covering the surface up to the step with a shell-lining 7 of corrosion resistant metal, placing in the step 6a a load-ring 6b extending inwards towards the vessel axis, uniting the shell lining with the load-ring, fabricating an end-lining 12, 14 to cover the internal surface of the closure lid 2 and uniting the end-lining 12, 14 with the load-ring 6b. As shown, there is an inlet opening 13 in the closure lid 2. The parts of the lining can be united by soldering brazing or welding. Suitable linings are of stainless steel and Ni alloys. Fig. 1 illustrates the top closure of a vessel and Fig. 3 (not shown) the bottom closure.
